This is the privacy policy for theyardlab.com, operated by The Yard Lab Publishing Group, LLC ("The Yard Lab," "we," "us"). It describes what information we collect when you visit our site or interact with us, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
When you submit work to The Lab. through our submission form, you provide your name, email address, work title, word count, submission type, and brief bio. When you follow up by emailing your manuscript file to team@theyardlab.com, that file and its contents are stored in our inbox.
When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your email address.
When you contact us directly via email, we receive whatever you choose to send.
Our hosting provider logs basic technical information about visits — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — for the standard purpose of operating the site and defending against abuse. We do not run analytics, advertising trackers, fingerprinting scripts, or any third-party data collection.
We do not use tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies. The only browser storage this site uses is one localStorage entry that remembers your choice on the cookie consent banner so we don't show it again. You can clear it at any time through your browser's storage settings.
Submission information is used to read, evaluate, and respond to your submitted work. If we accept your work, we'll use your contact details to discuss contract terms, payment, editing, and publication. If we decline, we'll use them to send you our response.
Newsletter email addresses are used to send you our newsletter, typically monthly. We do not use them for any other purpose.
Direct correspondence is used to respond to you.
We use a small number of third-party services that necessarily receive some of your information when you interact with the site:
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal information with anyone else for any purpose.
We retain submission materials and correspondence for as long as is reasonably necessary to read your work and respond, plus a modest period after for our records — typically no longer than two years from your last contact with us. Newsletter subscriptions remain on file until you unsubscribe.
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding the personal information we hold about you:
To exercise any of these rights, email us at team@theyardlab.com and we'll respond within thirty days.
California residents: under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), you also have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and the sources, to request deletion, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.
EU, UK, and other GDPR jurisdictions: you have additional rights under the GDPR or similar laws, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
This site is not directed at children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable security measures to protect your information, including HTTPS for all site traffic and the security practices of our service providers. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we change this policy in a material way, we'll update the effective date at the top and, where appropriate, notify subscribers via the newsletter.
